Three physicians will be honored Thursday, Nov. 29,
when the Scleroderma Foundation holds its "Swing
for the Stars" gala at the Grand Hyatt Hotel in
New York City. Rheumatologist Lee Shapiro, M.D., and
gastroenterologists Barry Jaffin, M.D. and Anthony Weiss,
M.D., will be honored during the event that is being
co-sponsored by the Foundation and its Tri-State Chapter.
Lonnie Quinn, a reporter with WCBS-TV, will serve as
master of ceremonies. Quinn, a former actor, once had
a role in the ABC daytime drama “All My Children.”
LaLa
Brooks, original lead singer of the Crystals, will give
a special performance at the gala. Brooks is known for
her hits “Da Doo Run Run” and “Then
He Kissed Me.” She also sang the song “Aquarius”
in the musical “Hair.”
The event will include cocktails and dinner, as well
as silent and live auctions. Among the live auction
items available are a rare signed Fender Mustang guitar
signed by Steven Van Zandt, a member of Bruce Springsteen’s
band and the founder of Southside Johnny and the Asbury
Jukes. Another item sure to attract attention is a golf
flag used in the 2006 PGA Master’s tournament
signed by 2006 champion Phil Mickelson.
The cocktail hour begins at 6:30 p.m., followed by dinner
at 7:30. Tickets are $400 ($200 for cocktails only)
or $4,000 for a table of 10. For further inquiries,
