The National Scleroderma Foundation’s senior director of mission delivery, Kate Anastasia, and member of our patient advisory board, Nikhil Bhat, recently participated in The Lung Transplant Patient Advocacy Roundtable, a vital gathering of advocacy organizations dedicated to improving the lives of lung transplant patients, their families, and donor families.
During the event, attendees explored critical topics, including challenges within the lung transplant journey and ways to enhance patient support before, during, and after transplant. A key discussion focused on Ex Vivo Lung Perfusion (EVLP)—a groundbreaking procedure that keeps donor lungs functioning outside the body longer, increasing preservation time and expanding transplant opportunities.
By collaborating with experts and fellow advocates, the Foundation is committed to ensuring that patients, families, and donor families receive the support they need throughout the transplant process.
