Champions for Change: Paid Time Off (PTO) Initiative

We’re proud to share that we have joined the Champions for Change – Paid Time Off (PTO) Initiative, a national effort launched in 2024 by the Foundation for Sarcoidosis Research (FSR) to help remove job-related barriers to clinical trial participation.

This innovative initiative engages corporate America to support employees who choose to participate in clinical trials by providing paid time off (PTO). By partnering with employers, the program aims to make it easier for individuals to take part in critical research without having to choose between their health, their livelihood, and advancing science.

We’re especially excited to see this work recognized through a recent partnership announcement from the American Thoracic Society (ATS), highlighting their participation in the Champions for Change PTO Initiative and the positive impact it can have on research access and equity.

Foundation CEO, Mary Wheatley, IOM, CAE, was also featured in a compelling interview discussing why job protection and employer-supported PTO are essential to improving clinical trial participation and accelerating progress for people living with complex and rare diseases.

Together with partners like ATS and FSR, we’re committed to breaking down barriers, supporting patients, and helping ensure that research opportunities are accessible to all who want to participate.
