We’re proud to introduce a new Teen Scleroderma Support Group for young people living with scleroderma! Designed specifically for ages 13 to 17, this group creates a welcoming and safe space where teens can connect, share, and support each other.
The idea for this group has been growing steadily since it was first imagined in November. After hearing from parents, health care providers, community members, and Foundation staff about the need for a dedicated space for teens, the National Scleroderma Foundation spent the past six months carefully building this program to meet those needs.
To ensure the safety and well-being of all participants, our Foundation requires that a parent or guardian meet with Foundation staff and sign a waiver before their teen can join the group. During this meeting, we’ll review expectations and share important reminders to help maintain a safe and supportive environment for everyone involved.
Why a Teen Group?
Teens with scleroderma face unique emotional and social challenges. Navigating friendships, school, and health can feel overwhelming, and isolating. This support group will offer a place where teens can talk openly with others who truly “get it,” while also building confidence and community.
A Safe and Supportive Environment
Our foundation is committed to creating a safe, age-appropriate environment. Before participating, all parents or guardians will meet with Foundation staff and sign a waiver to review expectations and guidelines. The group will be led by a Licensed Master Social Worker with experience working with teens and chronic illness support.
Monthly Meetings
The Teen Support Group will meet virtually on the first Tuesday of every month at 7:30 PM EST.
